An
Asbestos & Mesothelioma Lawyer's Story
My name is Ron Brown,
along with Terry Crouppen I founded Brown and
Crouppen almost 20 years ago. One of the areas I
concentrate in is asbestos law. We have
represented many people who have been seriously
harmed by this most deadly of industrial materials,
let me tell you a little about asbestos.Asbestos has been
around for a long time. It’s been commercially
produced for almost 125 years and the first cases of
asbestos related disease turned up around 1900. It
wasn’t until the 1930’s that the link between
asbestos and various diseases was firmly
established. Remarkably, it still took another 50
years to completely stop the commercial use of
asbestos. Asbestos is deadly because it’s small
and light. It becomes airborne and we inhale it. It’s
estimated that more than 25 million people have been
exposed to asbestos during the last half century.
Asbestos exposure has
been directly linked to four specific diseases:
- Mesothelioma- a cancer of
the membranes lining the chest, abdominal
cavities and surrounding organs.
- Lung cancer- the most
common form of cancer. Many people think that
cigarette smokers who are exposed to asbestos
cannot prove their case because of the high
incidence of lung cancer among smokers. This is
wrong. Brown and Crouppen believes that a
cigarette smoker who has lung cancer and can
prove asbestos exposure still has a viable case.
- Asbestosis- a serious,
chronic, non-cancerous fibrous hardening and
scarring of the lungs. Asbestosis is a slow
progressive disease that can take up to 30 years
to develop.
- Pleural plaque/thickening-
a non-cancerous scarring of the lung lining that
can cause loss of lung function.
The following are a
partial list of the types of work situations that
can expose someone to asbestos:
Shipyards (all jobs)
Hotels
Construction sites (all Jobs)
Asbestos plant workers
Home Improvement (all jobs)
Custodian / Handyman

My name is John T. I
have a type of cancer called Mesothelioma. I got
this disease while doing my job. My story begins
almost 40 years ago, when I worked in a steel mill.
None of us knew anything about asbestos back then.
Like most workers we just assumed that the air we
breathed was safe, lord knows working in a steel
mill we had enough other things to worry about. What
I didn’t know was that every day I was inhaling
asbestos and that one day it would almost kill me.
