Lawyer's Story
My
name is Ron Brown, I am a senior partner at
Brown and Crouppen. Several years ago I was
instrumental in forming our bankruptcy group.
Since its inception this department has
successfully handled thousands of Chapter 7
and Chapter 13 personal bankruptcies. Let me
tell you, it’s a great feeling to help nice
people get out from under debts that are
literally killing them. This year has been a
very significant one at Brown and Crouppen in
terms of how we have decided to handle our
current and future debt relief practice. We
have decided to associate with the independent
lawfirm of Alan D. Teitelbaum and Associates
on a referral basis to work on future
bankruptcy cases. Mr. Teitelbaum’s firm is
an experienced debt relief law firm. I have
known Alan personally for over 30 years and
have complete confidence in his ability to
successfully handle these matters.
Let
me tell you about some clients we recently
helped. This family came to see us because
they had fallen behind on their mortgage
payments and the mortgage company had
scheduled a foreclosure sale of their home. By
filing a Chapter 13 bankruptcy, we were able
to stop the sale. We then drafted a payment
plan for them, spreading their payments over a
3 year period. We were able to give them some
breathing space that allowed them a chance to
get their money problems under control.
In
some Chapter 13 bankruptcies we are able to
restructure car loans, giving clients an
opportunity to pay off their car as well as
all their other debts. We then arrange for the
debts to be paid in one affordable monthly
payment over a 3-5 year period. It’s also
possible through bankruptcy to release
garnishments and even discharge civil
judgments.
I
remember one client whose serious medical
problems kept her from working. She didn’t
have health insurance and couldn’t pay her
medical bills. Out of desperation she began
paying for food and utilities with her credit
cards. In no time, she was in deep financial
trouble with no solution in sight. We were
able to file a Chapter 7 proceeding which
eliminated all her medical bills and credit
card debts and enabled her to begin a new
financially responsible life.
If
you are currently having severe money
problems, consider this. The U.S. Congress has
drafted and is currently considering a new
sweeping bankruptcy law that may make it more
difficult to qualify for a Chapter 7
bankruptcy or restructure debt under Chapter
13. In other words, if you need help, now is
the time to act.
