Welcome to
the Brown & Crouppen Crestor page. Brown & Crouppen
has thrived for over a quarter of a century because
of our shared commitment to deliver the best
possible service to clients throughout the United
States. We have represented
many people injured by unsafe drugs and medical
devices. Our attorneys have worked hard to ensure
that negligent manufacturers and suppliers are held
accountable for the injuries and fatalities caused
by their unsafe products. With the support of some
of the nation’s premier drug litigation specialists,
Brown & Crouppen has tackled some of the more well
known prescription cases including Rezulin™, Fen-Phen™,
Lotronex™, OxyContin™, Prempro™, Baycol™, PPA™, and
Zyprexa™. We are also representing clients who have
been injured by Crestor (rosuvastatin).
Crestor is
manufactured by Astra-Zeneca Pharmaceuticals, and is
a member of the powerful “statin” family of drugs
used to treat high-cholesterol. Patients with under
active thyroids or kidney problems are at increased
risk for rhabdomolysis when they take Crestor.
Rhabdomolysis is a breakdown of muscle fibers that
frequently results in kidney damage and can be
fatal. Controversy continues to swirl around Crestor,
which was approved by the Food & Drug Administration
(FDA) in August of 2003. Less than a year later, the
FDA has issued a
Public Health Advisory regarding the drug. If
you or someone you love has been injured or has died
because of the adverse effects of rosuvastatin, you
may be entitled to receive compensation. The Brown &
Crouppen team has helped thousands of clients
receive over 200 million dollars in settlements and
awards for damages in personal injury cases. We may
be able to help you.
Crestor is
one of six cholesterol lowering “statin” medications
approved by the FDA. Another statin drug,
cerivastatin (Baycol), has already been removed from
the market because of reports of rhabdomyolysis and
fatalities. The same potential for kidney toxicity
has been linked to the use of Crestor. AstraZeneca’s
has discontinued production of its 80 milligram
strength dose and placed special restrictions on
distribution of the 40 milligram dosage. Research
has indicated that Crestor is the only remaining
medication in the statin family to cause elevated
urine protein, a potential warning sign of serious
kidney problems.
AstraZeneneca PLC is the U.K.’s second-largest
pharmaceutical producer. Their U.S. headquarters is
in Fairfax, Virginia. It is disturbing to note that
AstraZeneneca had delayed their application for FDA
approval and halted clinical trials worldwide due to
reports of kidney damage and muscle weakness. In
June of this year, the London-based company issued a
revised package insert for Crestor in Europe.
Letters advise physicians to start patients on the
lowest possible dose of the drug and prescriptions
for the highest dose have been moved to the
“specialist supervision” category. The letters also
advise that prescriptions are prohibited in cases
where patients are at high risk for rhabdomyolysis.
U.S. Crestor labels already contain appropriate
warnings; however in their June 9, 2004 health
advisory, the FDA reinforces concern regarding the
European label changes.
At Brown &
Crouppen, we recognize the tactics that powerful
drug makers use to market their products and avoid
responsibility for the suffering they cause. We
believe that the problems with rosuvastatin will
continue, that people will continue to be injured
and some will even die, while the drug makers will
continue to profit. It is time to hold the
manufacturers and suppliers of dangerous drugs
accountable for their promises made and broken. If
you or someone you love is taking Crestor, we urge
you to contact your doctor for health advice. Our
next recommendation is to consult with a qualified
attorney who has expertise in personal injury and
product liability claims. Call Brown & Crouppen. We
have the experience, resources and talent to take on
the big drug companies.
At Brown &
Crouppen our experienced team of defective drug
lawyers provide tough, aggressive representation for
Crestor victims and their families. When you choose
us to handle your lawsuit, our entire team becomes
fully committed to your cause. We’ll find answers,
hold negligent companies responsible and get you the
compensation you deserve.
