The Brown & Crouppen law firm is one of mid-America’s largest personal injury law firms with a 25 year history of success. A large area of our concentration is dangerous drug litigation involving manufacturers and suppliers of unsafe drugs.

We believe that the makers of dangerous products
who place profit above the lives of innocent victims
should be held accountable for their actions.

OxyContin™ is a powerful, addictive drug that the National Institute for Drug Abuse (NIDA) has identified as one of their greatest concerns and a growing problem.

Each day our nation becomes more aware of the dangers of this drug as lives are lost, families are torn apart and communities are devastated by the criminal activity associated with pursuit and use of the drug. We recognize that OxyContin has helped relieve the pain of many. However, we also believe that Purdue Pharma, L.P. and Abbot Labs were negligent in promoting Oxycontin while minimizing the risk of abuse and addiction.

We believe that manufacturers have a duty to anticipate, and when feasible, design against misuse of their product. Rather than aggressively marketing to physicians, Purdue should have stressed “limited use” and made healthcare providers aware of the addictive tendencies of OxyContin. Instead, the makers of OxyContin reaped enormous benefits from the sale of the drug. In August of 2001, the Connecticut Attorney General Purdue ruled that…”Purdue Pharma, has ethical responsibility to help treat and rehabilitate those addicted to the powerful painkiller”. We are committed to ensuring that some of the drug maker’s profits are put to good use as compensation to those whose lives have been unalterably changed.

ABOUT OXYCONTIN: A synthetic opiate twice as potent as morphine, Oxycodone works by attaching itself to specific proteins called opioid receptors located in the brain, spinal cord and gastrointestinal tract. Oxycontin is both physically and mentally addictive with short and long term health consequences. Chronic use of OxyContin ® can result in increased tolerance and the need for higher doses of the medication to receive the initial effect. Learn more about Oxycontin & Addiction >
